Skincare Routine for Beginners

If you just started to look for a skincare routine and feel overwhelmed don’t worry, I made this simple guide to help you get started. I know it can feel quite overwhelming, but the important thing is to start simple, just three steps of your new skincare routine can be enough: cleanse, moisturize and sunscreen. First thing first, we have to determine which type of skin you have.

  • Oily. Your skin gets shiny throughout the day.
  • Dry. Your skin it’s irritated and tight.
  • Combination. A bit of both, oily in some places, dry in others.
  • Normal. Not too shiny and not too dull.
Step 1

After you established your skin type you can choose a cleanser suitable for you. Cleansers remove dirt, oil, bacteria and excess sebum from your face. It should be the first thing you do in the morning to get rid of all those things and the creams you used the day before. It also helps your moisturizer to maximize its benefits.

Step 2

Now it’s moisturizing time, and yes even if you have oily skin, sometimes the lack of moisture drives our skin to produce more oil to compensate, you just need a lighter one compared to someone who has dry skin. When buying a moisturizer look for Ceramides which help to moisturise and strengthen the protective skin barrier, and Hyaluronic Acid which attracts and retains moisture in the skin. Check below which kind you need for your skin.

Step 3

The last step is the most important and it’s always overlooked. Sunscreen. It should always be used if you are just going to work (even if that means crossing the road) or going on holiday. The sun makes your skin wrinkle earlier and it can lead your skin to produce dark spots.

This is your first routine, you will need this step in the future as well, so try to perfect it, find the products that work best for you and give it time to work. Once you’re confident with your current routine you could add some enhancer, like toners, exfoliators and acne treatments.
